Manchester Ship Canal
Opened in 1894, the Manchester Ship Canal was one of the last major canals to be constructed in Britain. It stretches for 36 miles from Eastham, on the Southern shore of the Mersey estuary, 6 miles from Liverpool, almost to the centre of Manchester. North West of England. We will have a full day excursion to Salcombe to enjoy a cruise on the Manchester Ship Canal, a truly memorable six-hour cruise along a 36 mile stretch of canal to Salford Quays, allowing us to absorb some spectacular scenery whilst live commentary reveals the facts, the history and the dramas of one of Britain’s major waterways. The cruise leaves you with an overwhelming sense of how its construction shaped the city of Manchester and the North West of England. You will enjoy a half-day mystery tour, which will lead where, only the driver knows! Our hotel is the excellent 4 Star De Vere Daresbury Park, where we will enjoy a 3 night stay.
